Scourge of War Antietam Review Featured Gameplay Scenario: None but Heroes are Left A month ago I picked up Scourge of War Gettysburg, and I played it so often that I decided lets see what other titles are in the series. The next one I had in mind was Antietam. Gettysburg was the bloodiest battle in American history. Antietam was the bloodiest day. Night Mode Love this.

The environment transitioning from night into day and vice versa looks cool. Transparent trees Seems like something small but this comes in useful. Just wish there was a little more transparency.

FULL Antietam Scenario. You can play the full 11 hour battle. What more can I say.

This is a going to be a LONG but incredible scenario. AI Brigade Commanders Brigade Commanders rush up and down the line giving bonus support to their units. How awesome is that.

It’s really cool I don’t have to manage them, as well as being historically accurate. Amazing Gameplay I’ve greatly enjoyed the gameplay experience in Scourge of War Antietam. Not only is it Addicting but it immerses you right into the battle. I even find myself thinking about strategies while at work wondering how I’m gonna hold back The Yankee onslaught. The hallmarks of a great game When you fantasize about it at work lol.

Giving AI orders The AI sometimes does not listen. You tell a brigade or division to attack this position and it doesn’t.

None of the troops move. Gets very frustrating especially when your line is breaking. Graphics Upgrade needed Would like to see a upgrade in the graphics in the coming titles.

Setup a Antietam Section in Main Menu A ‘Antietam Scenario’ section in the main menu, with its own designed battlefield map (similar to The Gettysburg Scenario map) would be a plus. Map Upgrade The pop up map needs a upgrade. Its difficult locating unit commanders. Also adding a zoom function to this would be a big plus. A recommendation I have is instead of labeling every regiment in the game. Label only the brigades. It would cut out a lot of clutter on the map.

There are some more improvements I believe can be done to The engine / gameplay. Check out my Scourge of War Gettysburg review to see more - Scourge of War Antietam does a great job of living up to the original, SOW Gettysburg and adding some nice treats (Night mode, Full Antietam scenario, etc.) along the way. One of the big things that I love about the game is the developers adding a Full Antietam Scenario mode covering 11 hours of the game. I hope we get to see this same type of treatment to all their future titles. Who doesn’t want to be the Army commander running the whole battle from start to finish? Now for a $19.99 DLC expansion to SOW Gettysburg I can tell you I strongly recommend buying it, especially if your into Scourge of War games or were a old Sid Meiers Gettysburg fanatic.
